Accessibility Statement for Enid Blythe

ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT, enidblythe.com

OUR COMMITMENT

Enid Blythe Inc. is committed to ensuring that enidblythe.com is accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We believe every customer deserves equal access to our products and an independent, barrier-free shopping experience regardless of how they navigate the web.

We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA — the standard cited by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III and California's Unruh Civil Rights Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 51 et seq.). We do not claim full conformance, as no site can guarantee that for every user and every technology. We do claim an active, documented, and continuous program to identify and remove barriers. This program runs on an ongoing basis, not as a periodic exercise.

WHAT WE DO

We address accessibility through source-code remediation. We do not use accessibility overlay widgets. Overlays inject JavaScript that modifies the presentation layer at runtime without fixing the underlying code. They cannot create proper label associations, repair semantic structure, or correct keyboard navigation. They have not been found by courts to constitute ADA compliance, and their use has been directly associated with continued litigation. We do not use them.

Our program includes:

  • Monthly formal accessibility audits of every key page and flow, including the homepage, product pages, collection pages, contact page, cart, and checkout
  • Four independent scanners run on every audit: axe DevTools (Deque Systems), WAVE (WebAIM), Accessibility Insights for Web (Microsoft), and ARC Toolkit (Vispero / TPGi)
  • Manual keyboard traversal of all interactive elements and the complete checkout flow
  • Screen reader testing using NVDA on Windows with Chrome, with verbatim announcement logging
  • Manual colour contrast measurement using the WebAIM Contrast Checker and eyedropper sampling for text over imagery
  • Accessibility review conducted before any new third-party application is installed
  • Re-testing after any theme update that affects shared components
  • All scan results logged, stored, and retained as part of our compliance documentation

We use all four automated scanners because each applies different rulesets and catches different issue categories. Automated scanning is supplemented by manual testing because some defects — controls with incorrect rather than missing accessible names, component interaction failures, and keyboard traps — cannot be detected by automated tools alone.

EXAMPLES OF WHAT WE HAVE CORRECTED

Through our audits and remediation work we have identified and corrected issues including:

  • Colour contrast failures on text, form fields, and interactive controls that fell below the WCAG 4.5:1 minimum ratio
  • Interactive elements with no accessible name, making them unidentifiable to screen readers
  • Keyboard access failures on the product gallery, navigation menus, and cart
  • Cart drawer controls that announced as links rather than buttons and did not respond to the Space key
  • Controls with incorrect accessible names, including a quantity button that announced the wrong action to screen readers
  • Missing visible focus indicators, leaving keyboard users unable to track their position on the page
  • Form fields without properly associated labels on contact and newsletter forms
  • Auto-playing video without a pause or stop control
  • Product and blog post images with missing, duplicate, or non-descriptive alternative text
  • Accessible names supplied by a runtime script rather than stored in page content, creating a fragile dependency that could silently break on image re-upload
  • ARIA attribute errors that misrepresented element roles to assistive technology
  • Footer links that announced URLs instead of their visible link text
  • A cart drawer dialog with no accessible name, announced as unlabelled to screen reader users
  • Colour swatch links with no accessible names, leaving eight consecutive unlabelled links in the tab order
  • An accessibility overlay widget whose own controls contained multiple Level A failures and which was removed entirely

KNOWN LIMITATIONS

We document known limitations transparently. We do not claim conformance on areas where gaps exist. Where a limitation involves a third party, we have raised it directly with that party.

Cart drawer: When the cart drawer is open, background page content remains reachable by a screen reader's virtual cursor. Keyboard navigation is correctly constrained — focus is trapped within the drawer and background content cannot be reached by Tab or Shift+Tab. The gap is limited to virtual cursor navigation only and is targeted for correction in the next theme-level development cycle.

Third-party applications: Some third-party applications inject markup at runtime that we cannot edit from theme code. Where we identify accessibility failures in third-party components, we raise them directly with the relevant vendor. We review the accessibility impact of any application before installing it.

Shopify hosted checkout: Shopify's native checkout and order confirmation pages are hosted and controlled by Shopify on a standard plan and cannot be customised by us. Known issues on these pages include zoom being disabled on payment entry iframes, which prevents magnification at the point of card entry. These are documented here for transparency. We have no ability to remediate them independently. Addressing them requires Shopify Plus or escalation to Shopify support.

Shop Pay: The Shop Pay accelerated checkout is hosted on shop.app, a Shopify-operated domain we do not control. Known issues on that domain include zoom being disabled on payment iframes. These are beyond our control as a standard Shopify merchant. Customers who prefer not to use Shop Pay may complete their purchase through standard guest checkout at any time.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT

This site is built and tested to support the following assistive technologies:

  • NVDA with Chrome (Windows)
  • VoiceOver with Safari (macOS and iOS)
  • Keyboard-only navigation (all browsers)

All interactive elements are operable by keyboard. All images carry meaningful alternative text or are marked decorative. All form fields carry properly associated labels. The minimum colour contrast ratio for text is 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text, in conformance with WCAG 1.4.3.
